TWO PHD SCHOLARSHIPS IN STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING FUNDED BY AN ARC DISCOVERY PROJECT BASED AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

We are looking for two PhD students to work on fire performance of prefabricated composite structural systems of
modular tall buildings (see
https://lnkd.in/gpsc6VJB)
PhD1 - Perform the fire testing and modelling of inter-module connections (requirement: experimental
skills and modelling skills with ABAQUS or LS-DYNA or SAFIR). The experimental testing will be conducted at
The University of Sydney in collaboration with Professor Brian Uy.
PhD2 - Develop computational tools for coupled fire-thermo-mechanical analysis and performance based
fire design (PBFD) of modular buildings (requirement: coding/programming skills with C++/Fortran, and be
familiar with OpenSees and FDS software). The work will also be co-supervised by Professor Tuan Ngo at
Melbourne.
Stipend: AUD34,400/annum for three years, and other benefits (see more info at https://lnkd.in/gGakHhdX)
Eligibility criteria: This opportunity is open to both Australian and international students who (1) hold a Bachelor
(first class honours) or Master degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with a GPA over 80/100; and (2) meet the
English requirements (for international applicants only) with overall IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0
